Bast photography consists of two photographers; Jameson and Kristen Bast.
Jameson: I first became interested in photography in 2004 after taking a black and white film class at my high school. When starting college, I decided to pursue photography within an art degree and started photographing weddings. Through the course of several internships in the photography community, I decided weddings and portraiture are the two types of photography I most enjoy. Since 2006, I have had the opportunity to shoot hundreds of portrait sessions and weddings. When my wife is able, we photograph the weddings together. She is a great second photographer!
I currently teach visual art to high school students at an international Christian school in Germany with classes in ceramics and yearbook. Teaching art so that students gain a passion to create and think outside of the box is what has driven me to become a teacher.
My philosophy on photojournalism, and particularly wedding photography, is that pictures should be used to supplement, not replace memories. The most vivid memories I want couples to have of their wedding day is through their own eyes; not as seen through my camera lens. It is my hope that the pictures captured during the day will help to spark these original memories for my clients and help them share these moments with friends and family.
Kristen: Hey there, I'm Kristen! I really enjoy photography and am also a registered nurse. Right now, besides taking pictures for our Bast Photography business, I am a stay at home mom for our four little ones and volunteer as a nurse at the same international Christian school Jameson works at.
The first wedding I shot was in 2009 with Jameson up in Duluth, Minnesota. Since then, we've been able to work together doing wedding photography and portrait sessions, which has been a blast. I really enjoy doing photoshoots with Jameson and photography has also now become something that I enjoy doing when I have a solo-shoot.
